Jewell’s Country Market is owned by Edwin and Dawn Jewell from York, Prince Edward Island. Where they live with their three children, Emily, Jordan, and Alana. We have a wonderful team who are ready and willing to help all who visit with us.
The business was started to provide an opportunity for the public to be able to purchase vegetables direct from our farm. Providing a fresher product and more convenient experience for our visitors. To meet the public demand for flowers a small greenhouse was built in our second year. Growing plants has turned out to be the largest part of our business. We have expanded to over 30,000 square feet of growing and display area.

James Jewell, my great, great, grandfather, came to PEI from Devon, England in 1841. He was a farmer and market gardener. Going back to my great great grandfathers on both sides of my family (Jewell and Chappell) my family has been making their living from the land. My father, Parker married Irene Chappell and settled just up the road in York in 1950. Parker and Irene had four children. Eleanor, Irwin, Edwin and Dale.
Edwin graduated from high school and farmed with his two brothers. It was in 1998 that a small roadside stand was built to sell vegetables from our farm. With a prosperous summer behind them, a much larger building was built across the road in the fall. In 1999, a new 5600 square foot market was opened. In 2000, Edwin bought out his partners and has operated the business since then. Greenhouses were constructed starting in 2001 and that part of the business has expanded steadily. Today there are over 30,000 square feet of greenhouse space.
